On April 10, 2021, Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) launched its COVID-19 vaccination program. To facilitate the vaccination, USTC Suzhou Institute Party Committee attached great importance to the vaccination, and prepared for the vaccination in an orderly manner. Faculty-in-charge managed the recipient registration, vehicle and volunteer arrangement and other preparation in advance to guarantee an organized vaccination. On the day of vaccination, faculty and students arrived in batches and get vaccinated in separate groups.

Vaccination of the first dose was conducted by Xingtang Hospital. In the afternoon of the vaccination day, Li Yaping, Deputy Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee, Mayor of Suzhou, went to some vaccination venues to supervise the vaccination work. He stressed that according to the deployment requirements of the CPC Central Committee and the provincial and municipal government, we should go all out to promote vaccination, build a population immunity barrier as soon as possible to guarantee the people’s safety, health, and economic and social development.

Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research recruited 28 student volunteers to provide services for the vaccination. They collected the information of the vaccine recipients, guided recipients to get vaccinated in batches, maintained order of the venue, monitored health condition of the recipients after injection, etc. The volunteers made their contributions to the success of the vaccination program.

According to the arrangement made by the Institute, the volunteers were divided into two groups. At noon on April 10, the first group of volunteers arrived at the first floor of Sixian Building, guiding students to register, answering their questions, reminding them to wear masks, and organizing them to take the school bus to the vaccination venue at Suzhou International Expo Center.

In the afternoon, the second group of volunteers took the school bus to the vaccination site. They assisted the medical staff to maintain order, served and monitored the recipients after injection, and timely reported the abnormal conditions to the teacher.
The volunteers did an excellent job in this vaccination program with their enthusiasm and thoughtful service. With the joint efforts of all the faculty, students, medical staff and volunteers, the vaccination was carried out in an efficient and orderly manner. In addition, the program enhanced the sense of responsibility in the student volunteers, carried forward the volunteer spirit, and established a good image of volunteers.
Vaccination of the second dose is around the corner. We hope that our faculty and students participate actively in vaccination, making our efforts to establish the population immunity barrier.
